At this time of year there are parties, work get together and family gatherings where there is lots of tasty foods and drink on offer. Foods we would not normally eat, and it is easy to over indulge and then suffer the consequences with hang overs, indigestion and upset tummies.

There are things that you can do to help combat this and I have listed some tips to help you through this party season.

If you know that you are going to be out with friends and there will be free flowing alcohol. Maybe eat some avocado, poached egg on rye bread this will give you slow releasing carbs and protein which will help the liver to detoxify when drinking.

Stay hydrated have water in between the alcohol drinks as becoming dehydrated will contribute to that hang over in the morning. Pacing yourself also by having water in between means you ill drink a bit less.

Having too many carbonated drinks will leave you feeling bloated and uncomfortable.

Homeopathic remedy for a hang over is Nux Vomica.

 

Indigestion

 

Eating a lot of rich food when our systems are not used to it can cause you to get indigestion.

You do not have to reach for over-the-counter medication for indigestion there are lots of natural ways to help. Having popular over the counter medications will cause your gut to become irritated and cause diahorrea or constipation neither of these are good to have.

Try some peppermint tea this is especially good for bloating and can help to calm you down.

Eating a ripe banana may well help as can a spoonful of honey. These can calm down the acid reflux. Aloe vera is another thing to try or ginger, fennel tea and liquorice are all things that may help you. Chamomile tea is another good tea to try as this is very calming and soothing on the system, helps the liver and gallbladder.

Avoid too tight-fitting clothes as they can make you feel very uncomfortable and try not to overeat or eat too quickly as this can also contribute to indigestion.

Homeopathic Remedies to try are:

Nux Vomica if there is burning pain from overindulgence.

Carbo Veg for bloating and gas in the stomach.

Arenicum Album is the remedy for ice cream, strong cheese, beer, and sour foods. There may be a burning sensation felt when this remedy is indicated.

Pulsatilla is indicated when lots of fatty food has been eaten, the person is not at all thirsty and have very changeable symptoms.

 

Lifestyle Tips

 

After your heavy meal go for a walk, this will help with the digestion rather than sitting down in front of the TV.

Try not to reach for too many sweet foods they effect your immune system by lowering it, cause weight gain and inflammation in the body.

Don’t feel guilty at Christmas time, it is time to relax take some time off and let your body recharge itself ready for when life goes back to normal.

If you have had a few hectic weeks with parties and gatherings, then make sure you are getting enough sleep 8 hours a night on average. Your body needs sleep to recharge itself and heal. Do not feel guilty about the odd lie in of you feel you need it.
